eSellerate to provide online sales support for Microsoft's Digital Locker
LINCOLN, Sept. 14, 2005 - Leading e-commerce provider eSellerate (eSellerate.net) announced on Tuesday that it has been selected by Microsoft to provide electronic commerce solutions and support for Digital Locker, a new software service being previewed on Microsoft Windows Marketplace Labs.
eSellerate is providing a custom web-service based interface for Digital Locker to handle transaction processing, digital goods delivery, payment remittance and developer content submission. This new offering will advance and simplify the process for purchasing and downloading software by exposing millions of consumers to a diverse online catalog of qualified Windows-specific applications.
Digital Locker is a free service, being developed for the Windows Marketplace, and is currently available for preview at http://www.windowsmarketplacelabs.com, that enables people to easily acquire and download software from the rich portfolio of products available on the Windows platform. The Digital Locker is an ad-ware and virus-ware free service that provides complete control over personal information and the ability to track purchase history and software license details. For independent software vendors (ISVs) building applications for the Windows platform, it offers a cost effective way to promote and distribute their products to the largest group of relevant customers.
"Microsoft is committed to providing customers with broad product choice and the ability to very easily obtain and download software," said Joe Peterson, corporate vice president of the Windows Client Division at Microsoft Corp. "We're enthusiastic about pursuing this goal with eSellerate, a leading software commerce provider focused on providing the necessary tools and solutions for software publishers to sell more of their software. eSellerate will provide Windows software publishers with the opportunity to reach an even wider audience with a very cost-effective solution."
The strategic relationship between Microsoft and eSellerate allows both parties to work together to deliver consumers great products while providing a superior user experience.
"Microsoft has created not only an opportunity for software publishers to gain exposure and to participate in an opportunity otherwise not available, but is also establishing a new benchmark for purchasing software online," stated Patrick Smith, eSellerate's VP of Sales. "We are excited to participate in the creation of Digital Locker, as it embodies our focus on providing innovative commerce platforms and new opportunities for our customers," continues Smith. "It has allowed us to embrace the power of web services and the .NET platform fundamental to our development foundation and continued innovation."
