Announcing eSellerate Download Service!

What is eDS?
The eSellerate Download Service (eDS) is a value-added service provided to the end user that will not only increase customer confidence, but will also increase revenue for you.

This opportunity provides your customers with the peace of mind that they will be able to:

  • have access to the complete and exact file(s) they downloaded with their purchase
  • reinstall software after a computer or hard drive crash
  • easily move their software to a new computer (provided they have a valid license for each computer)

How soon will eDS be available?
eDS will be available to all customers beginning Monday, April 5.

Why are you offering eDS?
While eSellerate has never guaranteed that downloads would be available after purchase, files were available for download as long as the publisher still referenced them in a SKU. That usually meant a customer could re-download the software for an undeterminable amount of time without restriction. With eDS, we are guaranteeing that the end user will be able to download the exact file they purchased with reasonable restrictions.

How does it work?
During checkout, the customer will have the opportunity to purchase eDS for $4.99. If they do so, they will have access to the After Support Services page (http://store.esellerate.net/support) from which they can re-download the exact file they downloaded when they made their original purchase. They must enter their purchase information in order to access the download.

What if the customer doesn't purchase eDS? Can they still purchase and download my software?
Yes. The purchase and download of your software is not contingent on the purchase of eDS. eDS is just a value-added service offered to your customers.

Do I have to use it? Can I remove it/change it later?
eDS is a feature that will be presented to all customers and will be applied to all web store SKU purchases that require an electronic download. While you are able to change the default settings for eDS at any time, the eDS option cannot be removed by you. If you have concerns about using this service, please contact your account executive or account manager.

What version of my software will customers have access to if they purchase eDS?
With eDS, your customer will have access to the exact version of your software they downloaded at the time of purchase. When the end user accesses the support page to initiate a download insured by eDS, they will be advised to check your site for software updates issued since the original download.

Can I set the pricing?
No. eSellerate has done extensive research to find the optimum price for this service. eSellerate controls the purchase price of eDS.

Why do I get $1 per eDS sale?
eSellerate is committed to increasing your revenue opportunities! By sharing in the proceeds from this service, yet absorbing all of the cost, we are adding more money directly to your bottom line by offering to our end users one of the lowest rates available for extended download services. Unlike other e-commerce providers, we want to make sure that you receive a portion of each eDS sale at a hefty 20%.

What happens if more than one downloadable product is purchased?
The purchase of a single eDS SKU covers all products in the shopping cart that require an electronic download. There is no need to purchase eDS for each product in a single order.

Currently, eDS is automatically added to the shopping cart. Can this be changed?
Yes. The "eSellerate Download Service" section of the "Policies" page provides a checkbox for determining how web stores present the eDS option when a customer adds the first eligible SKU to the shopping cart:

  • If the box is checked (the default), a hyperlinked "eDS available" graphic will display next to the SKU name, and eDS will be automatically added to the cart. The customer can click the "eDS available" graphic to learn more about this option. If the customer removes eDS from the cart, eDS will appear as a purchase option at the bottom of the page.
  • If the box is unchecked, a hyperlinked "eDS available" graphic will display next to the SKU name, and eDS will appear as a purchase option at the bottom of the page. The customer can click either the "eDS available" graphic or the "What is eDS?" link to learn more about this option.

How soon will I be able to edit the default setting?
While the feature will not be available to your customers until Monday, April 5, you are able to edit the default settings immediately.

Where do I find eDS in the account manager?
After logging in to your eSellerate account, you will find a "Policies" link under the "Sales Information" section of the home page. After clicking on this link, scroll to the bottom of the page to find a section labeled "eSellerate Download Service." Here you can make the appropriate changes. Remember to click the "Save Changes" button to keep any changes you have made.

How does this affect a return on an order?
If a customer has purchased eDS and decides to return any item in that order, they will no longer have access to that item through eDS. For example: A customer purchases SoftwareA and SoftwareB from your web store, and also purchases eDS. At that time both SoftwareA and SoftwareB are available for re-download. The customer decides that they would like to return SoftwareA. Once SoftwareA is returned, it is no longer available for re-download through eDS, while SoftwareB is still accessible.

What if someone wants to return an eDS order (the eDS portion only)?
You can use the "Returns" editor in you account manager to credit customers for the entire price of the eDS SKU (but not a portion of the price).

When you return an eDS SKU, the following events occur:

  • The entire price is credited to the customer.
  • A $1 negative adjustment is made to your net revenue for the sale
  • The downloads guarantee is removed for all downloads in that order and the software is no longer accessible for download via eDS

Furthermore, you cannot specify a restocking fee on a returned eDS SKU.

Which of my SKUs are covered by eDS?
When purchased, eDS covers all SKUs in the order that involve an electronic download.

Is eDS handled per SKU, or are all SKUs affected?
All SKUs are not affected. Only SKUs that require an electronic download are affected.

Will eDS downloads affect the reinstall count that is in the Order Detail?
No. Downloads through eDS do not count toward your reinstall count set in the Order Detail.

How does eDS affect my commissions or payments from eSellerate?
Upon purchase of an eDS, $1 will be credited to your account. eSellerate will not charge a processing fee on the sale of eDS SKUs. eSellerate reports and notices will show an eDS SKU sale to always reflect your net revenue ($1) on that sale.

How is tax applied to the eDS SKU?
Sales tax will be applied to the purchase of the eDS SKU (if applicable), while VAT will not be applied to the purchase of the eDS SKU (if applicable).

How will the eDS SKU be handled in conjunction with any special offers, discounts or coupons I am offering?
Special offers, discounts or coupons are not applicable to the purchase of eDS.

How will eDS appear in my sales reports?
eDS sales will show as a normal SKU sale on your reports.

How long after the purchase of eDS are the files available for download?
With eDS, your customer will be able to re-download the software for 1 (one) year from the date of purchase.

Can this be used by pirates?
To prevent software piracy, eSellerate imposes a daily re-download limit on insured downloads. On top of that, there is a 10 download maximum. If a customer exceeds that re-download limit, the following message displays: "The re-download limit for this item has been exceeded. If you have questions about this error message, please contact customerservice@esellerate.net."

How will this affect the look and feel of my web store?
The professional design and placement of the eDS icons should only enhance the user experience of your web store. Providing peace of mind to your customers not only instills confidence in your products, but in your overall offerings.

What is your download policy if the customer does not purchase eDS?
The download policy will stay the same as it was before eDS. The end user will have the ability to re-download your software up to three times as long as that SKU has not been changed.

Will I be charged for extra bandwidth usage?
No. You will not incur any bandwidth charges related to downloads through eDS.

Whom do I contact if I still have questions about eDS?
Please contact our support staff at support@esellerate.net or your account executive at sales@esellerate.net if you still have questions about eDS.
